Borgo Carige is the little hamlet at the bottom of the hill between Capalbio, the highway, and the sea. It was founded in the 1950’s after the reclamation and agrarian reforms of the Maremma plain as a service center for the nearby farms. It doesn’t win any beauty awards, but it’s incredibly functional, and Tommy’s Pizza on Piazza della Repubblica is terrific!

The Le Burle cafe is a great place to stop for a morning coffee, the tiny, trendy little Gran Bazaar shop that sells all sorts of household items and magazines next to it, and the fancy Jacobelli wine shop. The closest real supermarket is also here, with an excellent delicatessen, and also the nearest petrol station to fill up on your (short) drive to the beach…
