The cafe and bar restaurant at Ultima Spiaggia in Chiarone, just five minutes drive south towards Rome. It’s one of our favorite beaches on the coast, with Penultima, the endlessly long free beach, stretching out beside it. The sand is golden, the water lovely, and there’s showers, bathrooms, ample parking, and umbrella hire if you need it. Prices are very reasonable, and the vibe is relaxed.
Weekends are packed, though, with lots of people driving up from Rome, so maybe look for somewhere less crowded, or just walk a bit further away. Carmen Bay at Macchiatonda, Frigidaire at La Torba, and Bau Beach at Ansedonia are also lovely. Don’t get too close to the headland at Ansedonia, though, because we’ve found the water is not as clean, but everywhere else is perfect!
