Selva del Lamone

North east of Capalbio on the way to Lago di Bolsena is the fabulous protected nature reserve of Selva del Lamone, remarkable for its almost impenetrable oak tree forest, maple trees, thick shrubs and aromatic flowers, and round moss covered volcanic lava stones from the ancient Vulsinio volcano the park is built on.

In addition to the wild boars, foxes, weasels, porcupines, hares, and woodpeckers that rule the forest, the park is also home to the archeological sites of the bronze age settlement of Sorgenti della Nova, the Etruscan fortress of Rofalco and Tomb of Gottimo, and the medieval ruins of the church and monastery of Santa Maria di Sala.
