Saturnia

The thermal hot springs of Saturnia are a short drive north of Capalbio in the municipality of Manciano. The town itself on the hill overlooking the springs is small and charming, and has ancient Greek and Etruscan origins, which can be seen in the Roman gates, the tombs, the remains of the city walls, plus the beautiful small medieval church and Aldobrandeschi fortress.

The hot springs and thermal baths are rich in mineral deposits and sulphur, and open year round. There are a number of exclusive luxury spas in the area, but the free springs shown in the picture below are easily accessible, with free parking nearby, a small and basic local bar, and plenty of shade and grass beside the stream to recuperate.
