Orbetello is the Big City; the largest town in the region, 15 minutes drive up the highway, and the place to go if you want a night out after a day at the beach. It’s still tiny, you can easily walk from one end of it to the other in 10 minutes, but it’s bustling with shops, cafes, bars, a big cheap supermarket, restaurants, fancy boutiques, banks, pharmacies, book shops, newsagents, and gelaterias! There’s even a cinema.

Corso Italia is the major shopping street, which runs from the leafy square just inside the city walls down to the main piazza and the old Governor’s mansion, then on to the tip of the isthmus and the bridge over to Argentario. But take the time to explore the pretty little side streets and alleys, away from the shoppers, with its lovely Spanish influenced architecture, cobbled stones, archways, and potted plants.
