When you’re driving in to Orbetello the best place to park is just outside the city walls on the right. Otherwise here, in the charming Piazza Mario Cortesini, which also has a lovely little car kiosk that make nice sandwiches and very decent coffee.

There’s also a carpark halfway down Via Mura di Ponente in front of the Santa Maria parish cathedral, but when you’ve found your spot there’s lots to enjoy, including the best gelato in the region – except for the incredible Gusto Capalbio in Capalbio Scalo – at Le Logge in Piazza Eroe on the ground floor of the historic Governor’s palace.
