Monte Amiata and its forests are extraordinarily beautiful, and laced with miles of hiking paths and adventure trails. The beech tree forest near the summit is the largest in Europe and is easily accessible on one of the many paths leading from the surrounding villages. Arcidosso, Santa Fiora, Abbadia San Salvatore, and Castel del Piano are especially pretty.
On the southwestern side of Amiata is Monte Labbro, a much more rocky and wild nature reserve, home of a wildlife park and a haven for wild deer, birds of prey, wolves, and the site of the tomb of Lazzaretti, the Prophet of Amiata. And to the north of the Amiata summit are the thermal baths of Bagni San Filippo and their extraordinary white rocks, surrounded by the forest, and free at all times.
