The Maremma Natural Park is one of the most beautiful protected reserves in the region. It covers a large 100sq km area from Talamone in the south up to Principina in the north, and inland over the Uccellina mountains to the Aurelia road.
The coastal region features secluded pristine free beaches, limestone cliffs, and remarkable ancient watchtowers. The reclaimed swamp wetlands are populated by a wide range of vegetation and birdlife, the flat farmland oxen and cows are still herded by the traditional Maremma butteri cowboys, and the mountain forests have wild boar, deer, and foxes.
