Manciano

The pretty little town of Manciano is just north of Capalbio, with an enchanting medieval center, a long history as an important market village for the Fiora valley, an imposing fortress built by Siena during a brief occupation in the 15th century… and a remarkable reputation as a cheese making powerhouse. If you like cheese, this is the place to go!

Along with traditional regional porcini mushrooms, wild boar, cured meats, and seafood, Manciano cheese is famous, with numerous dairies in the area making all manner of award winning high quality cheeses in a remarkable array of tastes from sheep milk, goat, and cow milk. Many of them are very particular to the region and Manciano specifically, and they’re exported all of the world. But this is where they’re from!
