The beach at Macchiatonda is lovely, and just a short drive beyond straight to the beach behind Capalbio Scalo. This works for a number of reasons, because the best supermarket in the area is in Scalo, and that fact that the best gelateria is there as well is just… unfortunate

The sandy beach is narrower at Macchiatonda than, say, in Chiarone, but the water is lovely and fresh and the bars and cafes here are very sweet and right on the water. There’s Carmen Bay, with it’s weathered wooden boards and sweeping canvas canopies, and just beyond it the classic 1970’s charm of Il Ginepro Coccolone. They both have showers and bathrooms and sunbed and umbrella hire, and also miles of free beach in either direction to the north and south.
