It is a large protected nature reserve, with wild cats, weasels, badgers, eagles, falcons, buzzards, and sparrows, and contains and a wildlife reserve with many types of deer grazing freely and wild Apennine wolves sometimes visible from the park&#8217;s observation decks.<\/p>\n<p>At the summit is the Giurisdavidica Tower and settlement ruins of the hermit and prophet Davide Lazzaretti, who founded a religious community of 80 families on the site in the 19th century. He would disappear for weeks at a time, returning with new visions and prophesies, and declared he would become the leader of a Divine Republic of Spain, Italy, and France.
