Talamone

Talamone is a remarkable little fishing village on the southern edge of the Maremma National park just 10km north of Orbetello, built on a rocky promontory dominated an imposing 13th century Aldobrandeschi fortress. The area was settled by the Etruscans and then Romans, but its roots go back even further to the Neolithic period.

It was the site of an important battle in 255 BC between victorious Romans against the Gauls, and Garibaldi landed here in 1860 to restock arms during his campaign to unify Italy. So, surpisingly exciting for such an enchanting little village!

The old center retains is traditional charm with narrow pedestrian streets and old stone houses, and its sandy beaches are bordered by pine woods and crystal clear waters of an intense blue color. Just north of the fortress are many rocky inlets with secluded swimming areas, and the bay harbour has a number of windsurfing, kite-surfing, and sailing boat hire activities.
