San Nicola

The medieval Church of San Nicola in the old center of Capalbio, built in the 12th century, renovated in the 14th to introduce Gothic elements to its Romanesque base, and decorated the following century to include Renaissance flourishes. The old center is incredibly beautiful, with little cobbled streets and squares and charming cafes and bars looking out over the countryside from the high fortress walls that encircle the town.

Capalbio is a terrific base for exploring the Maremma, a thriving, functional little town close to the beaches, hinterland, the Argentario. There are a number of cool cafes and excellent restaurants in the old center and just outside the city walls, plus a couple of general food stores, a bakery, butcher, delicatessen and chemist. And we have dates available and discounted ratres in these mild autumn weeks, too.
