The large hill rising up behind Capalbio to the north is called Monteti. We had to ask because we didn’t know ourselves and even Google doesn’t identify it, but you’ll be too curious and eventually want to explore it, as we did. There are numerous dirt pathways, some that take a fairly steep, almost vertical direct route to the top, others that wind their way more leisurely upwards.
The highest point itself is hard to find, and heavily wooded so there’s not much to see, but there are a number of great vantage points near the top looking out towards the coast and Argentario, and such a rich and beautiful diversity of plants and trees and and bushes, that it’s a lovely few hours trek on a morning or afternoon. There’s also a wild boar enclosure that the local hunting association maintains up there too that we stumbled upon. See if you can find it.
