To the east of Capalbio is Lago di Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Italy. The beautiful medieval town of Bolsena is on the north eastern shore overlooking the lake, and features a beautiful esplanade and beach on the lake shore.

On the southern edge of the lake are the towns of Capodimonte and Marta, which have a number of fine bars and restaurants on the sandy lakeshore, which stretches for kilometres around to the east below Montefiascone. It’s a lovely lake, perfect for a day trip, and even an evening in one of the excellent pizzerias or seafood restaurants on the shore.
