A day trip north of Capalbio when you just have to get as far away from the beach as possible is the beautiful mountain forest region of Monte Amiata. It’s an extraordinary and untouched area of rural charm, ringed by beautiful medieval villages such as Abbadia San Salvatore, Castel del Piano, Bagnore, and Santa Fiora.

The region has miles of hiking and bike trails, through the forests and woodlands, past natural springs and streams, past boulders and striking rock formations, and over the wild volcanic landscape of the mountain summit.
