The gorgeous Cala del Gesso cove on the western coast of Argentario is one of the prettiest little rocky beaches on the promotory, along with Cacciarella further north, Cannelle further south, and Isoletto, Acqua Dolce, and Lunga in the south, closer to Porto Ercole. Plan, get there early to find parking, prepare for the hike down to the beach, and take everything you need with you! The water is fresh and fabulous.

The Strada Provinciale that runs around the coastline is spectacular, with windy turns and an unpaved section in the south west, but it’s completely doable in a family car at a careful speed, and offers unparalleled views of the coast, across to the island of Giglio, and down to the various villas, gated communities, and boutique hotels that dot the coastline. If you want a change from the miles of sand, umbrellas, and sunbeds, this is it!
